Road Access
Spelga is located on the B27 between Hilltown and Kilkeel. From the north, as the road ascends the River Bann valley, Spelga Mountain is on the left as the road climbs steeply via two sharp hairpin bends.

Parking
Park in the public car park overlooking Spelga Lake and the dam, located on the right if coming up the hill, just after passing the dam wall. This car park is a popular rendezvous point for various activities. Public toilets are available across the road from the car park.

Site Access
Walk slightly up the road to use the gate that provides access to the hillside. DO NOT cross the fence. Proceed up the rear of Spelga Mountain toward the summit, which should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes with a paraglider. There is no clear path, and there are no fences or walls to cross.

Hazards
In a westerly wind direction, the air travels over Hen Mountain, though turbulence has not been experienced in this area.

Launch
The take-off area is large, shallow, and benign. The westerly take-off faces towards Hen Mountain and becomes a very steep escarpment at lower levels. There are no fence lines near the take-offs.

Bottom Landing
The main landing zone is the flat, rough (long grassy) area to the left of the B27 road and the River Bann. DO NOT climb over fences to get onto the road. If horses are present in the area, stay well away from them. This landing area is suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders.

Top Landing
Top land at the launch point.

Air Traffic Control Restrictions
None.
